Pope Francis’ real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was born on 17 December 1936 in Argentina. He is the fist pope to come from the America’s and the Southern Hemisphere. Pope Francis has a first degree in Chemistry, Philosophy and another one in Theology. He has taught psychology and literature at universities too.

Pope Francis has been referred to as the “people pope,” because he cares a lot for the poor. He is a very down to earth pope and very humble. He likes taking public transport and cooks his own meals. He does not believe in sex before marriage, abortion, birth control and same sex marriage. He believes in God obviously and believes that everyone should be treated fairly and equally. He would value things like loyalty, honesty, religion, dignity, education, healthy living, purity and peace.

Most of my values align with Pope Francis’ like loyalty, honesty, education, healthy living and peace but most of my beliefs do not. I don’t really believe in God or in any religion. I do believe in birth control and same sex marriage. I believe that people should be with who ever they want wether that is two females or two males.

Pope Francis was born on the 17 of December 1936, making him 76 years old. Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergogilo in Flores, Argentina. He is the first pope of the Roman Catholic Church to come from the Southern hemisphere and Americas. Bergogilo chose the papal name (reign name that has been tradition since the 10th centaury) Francis in honour of Saint Francis of Assisi because ‘he was especially concerned for the poor’. The conclave elected Bergogilo to become the 226th Pope on the 13th of March 2013.

Pope Francis was ordained as a priest in 1969, he has 2 university degrees in philology and chemistry, and later went on to teach chemistry to high school students. He is a very liked person as he lives a very relaxed lifestyle. He prefers to live in a small apartment, take public transport, pay for his own bills, and has helped people out in the slums He is a very humble and funny person, cracking jokes, and making easy conversation. He also cares very much for people less fortunate than him, and is passionate about poverty.

Negative aspects that I do not agree on with Pope Francis are that he is against gay marriage. I think that love is love, and it doesn’t matter wether the person you love is a man or women. He also doesn’t believe in abortion and contraception. I do agree with both of these, if it is the right solution for you and it isn’t hurting anyone else than you should be able to make your own decisions on the matter. He is also against euthanasia (the intention of ending a life to stop pain or suffering), which I also don’t agree on. If someone I knew was suffering in a coma, and they were unlikely to respond, I would make the decision to painlessly, end their life.

Pope Francis is a very likable guy, he seems a good fit for the new pope. He beliefs are influence from the bible, and is bringing in new thoughts and visions as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

    • Thanks Cassie and Jamie. Good answers. Did you read on the news about Pope Francis washing feet at Easter? It is traditional for the Pope to wash the feet of 12 Priests at Easter and this is symbolic of Jesus washing the feet of the 12 disciples. Pope Francis broke with tradition and washed the feet of 12 prisoners including two female, one of whom I believe was Muslim. He certainly does have some very interesting values, attitudes and beliefs!!

Cassie – thank you for referencing your work. Please go back through and check for spelling and careless errors.

Pope Francis I was born on the 17th of December 1936 in Buenos Aires with his real name ‘Jorge Mario Begoglio’ He is the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. During his Pre-papal career, Pope Francis gained several degrees in; Chemistry, Humanities, Philosophy and theological studies. All of these studies were done before joining the priesthood. Pope Francis is the first Pope from the Southern Hemisphere and the first Jesuit Pope. (A Jesuit is a member of the Society of Jesus).

Pope Francis is very different from the previous Popes that stood before him; he is a pope from the supposed ‘new world’, meaning he holds different and new values. Because he lived like a normal citizen, catching public transport and living in an apartment he has chosen to live in the guest house with other people rather than living alone in a large Palace. Pope Francis is known as the ‘People Pope’ as he needs people to be able to communicate with people rather than being isolated like the previous Popes. Some of the previous Popes lived in isolation and people were forbidden to talk to him whereas Pope Benedict thrives on talking to people. Pope Francis cares about people of all different races and religions especially people who aren’t very well off (poor) and is a very humble human being.

The Pope values equality amongst everyone no matter what religion, race or values that they may withhold. He does not believe in same-sex marriage or birth control but he does believe that it is okay to use contraception for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. The Popes opinion towards atheists is that if they do good things they are good even though they don’t believe in a religion, they should still be treated with the same respect as everyone else. In regards to same sex marriage he believes that it is a ‘sin’ but in saying that, he does believe that they should still be treated with love and respect.

Although I do not believe in any religion and I am not a religious person, some of my values and beliefs do align with Pope Francis’. Like him I believe that everyone should be treated equally and with the same amount respect no matter where they come from or what their religion may be. I do not agree with his beliefs on same sex marriage. It is not a sin in my opinion as I feel that love is love no matter what gender that person may be. Pope Francis is a very caring person and could be a great Pope for the future due to his humility and kindness to those that are less fortunate. The new Pope will hopefully bring about a change in the world and influence people to become more respectful and caring towards other people that may have differences.

    • Thank you Ellen. I hope he will bring change too.
Can you try and find another word for “meaning” – you use it a lot. Perhaps you don’t need to use it at all if what you’re saying is clear.
